Hike on a trip to New Hampshire during the Indian Summer in the
White Mountains and explore the colonial buildings in one of the
first European settlements in America.
New Hampshire is
located in the northeastern United States and belongs to the
so-called New England states. The landscape is characterized on
the one hand by the Atlantic coast and on the other by the
snow-capped peaks of the White Mountains. The so-called Granite
State is about the size of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and is
inhabited by approximately 1.3 million people.
A round trip is recommended to explore all of New Hampshire's
highlights. You should definitely visit the capital
Concord. There are numerous historic colonial-style buildings
here. The State Capitol with its golden dome and the old
Victorian-style post office are particularly worth seeing.
The White Mountains, part of the Appalachian Mountains in the
northeast of the state, are considered an excellent recreation
area. Its name comes from the snow-capped peaks and accordingly
there are excellent ski areas in Attiash or in the Waterville
Valley. In summer, the region is popular for its numerous
extensive hiking trails. A highlight in the middle of the dense
forests is the 240 meter high waterfall Flume Gorge. The mostly
rocky coast of New Hampshire is also ideal for hiking. We
recommend a visit to the small port city of Portsmouth, which is
considered one of the most beautiful places in the USA. Stroll
through the narrow streets and admire the many buildings from
the 18th century. In the Strawbery Banke Museum, an entire
colonial street area has been preserved in the original.
Travel tips and best travel times
There is no major international airport in New Hampshire itself,
so there is a connection via Boston Logan Airport, which is only
100 kilometers away. The time difference between the American
east coast and Germany is six hours.
The weather in New Hampshire is characterized by a humid
continental climate. Winter can be particularly cold and snowy
here, which is why the best travel time is between May and
October. Autumn is particularly popular when the colored leaves
make the landscape appear romantically colorful.
