Explore the vastness of the prairie in North Dakota, marvel at
breathtaking rock formations and get to know the lifestyle of
the Midwest. The little-known state of North Dakota in Europe is
located in the northern United States on the border with
Canada. The name comes from the Indian tribe of the same name,
which once inhabited this area. North Dakota, with a population
of just over 700,000, is extremely sparsely populated, which
means that visitors can find almost untouched nature.
Attractions
The capital, Bismarck, is located on the Missouri River and was
named after the former German Chancellor. The most popular
sights are the 74-meter-high State Capitol, built in the Art
Deco style, and the North Dakota Heritage Center, which shows
the history of the region and highlights the fossils of a
dinosaur. A little outside the city is the Double Ditch Indian
Village, which shows the way of life of the Native Americans in
a very plastic way. To explore the vastness of the prairie and
thus the scenic beauties of North Dakota, rental car tours and
train trips are particularly recommended. The rail network is
very well developed and such a train journey conveys the
lifestyle of the Frontier society particularly well. An absolute
highlight on a trip through North Dakota is a visit to Theodore
Roosevelt National Park in the west of the state. In the middle
of the prairie you can marvel at breathtaking rock formations
and gorges. A 14 mile panoramic road leads through the colorful
and at the same time bizarre North Dakota Badlands, past wide
prairies, grazing buffaloes and the Little Missouri River. The
area is ideal for hiking and for discovering various animal
species such as American bison, wild turkey, eagles or
mustangs. The Elkhorn Ranch, built by former President
Roosevelt, is also located in the national park. It teaches
visitors the hard life on the plains of the Midwest. In the
